Jon Heder Wore My Dog's Shirt

Jon Heder of Napoleon Dynamite fame was on the red carpet for the Hot Rod premiere in Hollywood wearing a shirt that looks exactly like this Pearlsnap Plaid Shirt my dog has. If anyone knows if he has a dog or not, I'd love to send him one so they can have matching outfits. Cute! And if you loved Napoleon Dynamite as much as I did, relive the magic with a Vote for Pedro shirt!

World's Tininess Measured Under 5 Inches

Dancer and Ducky, both tiny tiny Chihuahuas, were recently measured in to see who would win the title of Guniess Book of World Records' Smallest Living Dog by Height.

Contender #1: Dancer, a 1 year old long-haired Chihuahua from Lake County, Florida, measured in at 5 inches tall. There was a lot of fanfare surrounding Dancer before his first birthday due to his small stature but dogs aren't eligible for records until they reach a year old. He must have had a small growth spurt because...

Contender #2: Ducky, a 2 1/2 year old short-haired Chihuahua from Massachusettes, came in at whooping 4.9 inches tall! He's so small, he can't really bark. His barks sounds like a quack, thus the name. Says Ducky's owner, "Either people think Ducky's super cute and fall in love with him," she said, "or they think he looks like an alien."

We think both of them are super cutie pies! But maybe we're the chubby chasers of small dogs because we like some bulk and squish to them. It makes snuggling so satifsying.

What's for Dinner? Cold Hard Cash!

Our little guys are always getting into things, chewing and eating things that shouldn't be chewed or eaten. Inedible things, but you know, we've never had to go through their after-meal waste to fish anything out. Pepper Ann, an 8 year old Lab-German shorthair mix, ate something her owner had to fish out of her poop - cold hard cash, $800 worth. Eating non-food is not a first for Pepper Ann. She's munched on lipstick, ball point pens, Kleenex...she must have a unique palate to find those things tasty. But after Pepper Ann did her business, the owner saw pieces of money and decided to save it, rinse it, strain it and put the bills back together. They taped as much as they could together and were able to save over $700. Talk about working hard for your money.

If We Could Talk to the Animals

Do you think you can communicate with your dogs and cats well? We watch them everyday and pick up on their habits, seeing how their tails wag or ears fold, we can sense what they are feeling. There was a recent study in dog tail wags and they noticed tails wag more to the right when the dog feels positive about the person or situation. Ears are also a great indicator of their current state of being, with pricked up or forward ears showing interest and drawn back to show fear. Of course, these are pets who are very close to you and you can see the subtle changes in their demeanor to understand their emotional state. I definitely know when my little guys are hungry and want to be fed - they talk up a storm.

Chihuahua Saves 1 Year Old Boy

Now this cute doggie, Zoey, is a real hero. When a rattlesnake snuck up on her owner's 1 year old grandson, Zoey jumped between the snake and the boy to take the bite. Zoey got treatment and is now doing great! This little 5 pound cutie really shows that heroes comes in all shapes and sizes.

Pet-Friendly Pit Stops

I hate the thought of leaving my pets home alone or leaving them with strangers when I go on vacation and would love to take them along (I'm still trying to figure out if I'm the needy one or if they are). Even though they don't have to sit in front of a computer all day, they do need some variety in their lives...right? PetWelcome.com can help you plan a vacation with your little doggies and kitties and point out pet-friendly lodging along your route. I did a quick search from my home to my parents' home (around 250 miles) and there were over 50 hotels/motels listed. Buckle up, we're taking a road trip!

Oprah Mourns Gracie

Oprah Winfrey talks about the recent passing of her 2-year old golden retriever, Gracie, in the August issue of O, the Oprah Magazine. On May 26, Gracie choked to death on a plastic ball that belonged to Sophie, Winfrey's 12-year-old cocker spaniel, while out with her dog walker and two other golden retrievers, Winfrey says.

"Weeks have passed," Winfrey says in the August issue of O, the Oprah Magazine. "And the pain has not subsided. Every time I think about it, my heart starts racing and I feel like I just got stabbed in the chest." With Gracie's passing, she says it's given her a life lesson: Enjoy life but remember to slow down, too. We feel for you Oprah!

Another CelebuDog Addition

Is it in the stars that the anti-panty brigade get new puppies this month? Paris Hilton was spotted about town with a new little Yorkie in tow. Named Cinderella and totally fuzzy and adorable, this pup was dressed in a matching leopard print with Paris. Matching outfits are cute, but all leopard...let me think about that one.

My Best Friend's in the Wedding

Ohh, I love it when people include their dogs in their weddings. It really shows how much they are a part of the family and not just pets. Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Connell got married this past weekend. Their two doggies, Taco and Better, were part of the festivities, wearing black bow ties. Since it was an intimate affair, simple bow ties were the way to go!

Britney's New Dog

Britney Spears bought a little Yorkie and named him London. Really Brit? Did you really need another dog? Really? Judging by the way she's carrying her dog, I just hope there is someone else around to take care of the poor little guy.

Polka Dots on the Potter Red Carpet

We saw dots on the red carpet at the Harry Potter premier, and on many celebrities recently out and about. Some say it's trendy again, but really are polka dots ever out of style? Really?? They're just so much fun and the young'uns like our little poochies can wear them well. Maybe they just look out of style for us oldies (._.)

The Becks Love Striped Polos

With David Beckham playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy and Victoria Beckham staring in her reality show and having a Spice Girls reunion tour, the Becks are making a huge splash in the US media. If you haven't seen their spread in W Magazine, all I can say is WOW. WOW! Um, anyway, this fashion-conscious family were at the airport with three tykes in tow all wearing striped red polos. Adorable! And with such hot looking parents with style, I guess you can't go wrong with striped polos.

I Heart Puppies

This little guy has got to be the cutest puppy ever. He's got a huge heart on his side and that face is just to die for. I still love the panda dog but gosh, this is just so adorable I think I'm gonna pass out from the adorableness.

DCH Spotlight - Jacklyn

We're in a cutesy, heart, adorableness mood today. Hearts abound and lots of snuggling and kissing with the fuzzies. This Jacklyn dress is just so adorable I think I'm getting light-headed.

Environmentally Friendly, and Soft to Boot

With the recent Live Earth event, it's got many of us thinking green (although we should be thinking green all the time). Well, if you're on the market for a new dog bed, you should consider the Big Shrimpy beds. In either lofty big pillow or cozy cuddler style, these beds have a tough washable outer cover and a soft recycled inner.

Big Shrimpy's goal is that 70% of annual sales revenue will be from products containing at least 50% recycled materials. Big Shrimpy also follows environmentally sustainable practices in the company’s day-to-day activities and donates a portion of its annual product sales to a non-profit organization that works to encourage environmentally friendly business practices. In 2006, 96% of their product sales revenue came from products using at least 50% recycled materials. Way to go Big Shrimpy! This fall, these comfy beds will be stuffed with SmartFill, a 100% pre-consumer recycled polyester fiber. It is machine washable and dryable. Because SmartFill is made of many individual tufts of fiber, the beds can be opened up and “refluffed” to restore the loft of the fiber. Sounds dreamy. zzzZZZZZZ

DCH Spotlight - Red Baseball Jersey

Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and puppies! What can be more patriotic than puppies? Okay, maybe puppies wearing baseball shirts eating hot dogs and apple pie?! Or how about just cute puppies wearing cute baseball shirts - very patriotic indeed!

Dog Lovers Chained to Cause

We hope everyone enjoyed their time off work for the 4th. While some of us were bbq'ing most everything in sight, there were at least 108 people in 36 states living chained to a doghouse for 8 to 24 hours. This is their 5th Annual Chain Off event, which runs from June 30th to July 8th. Dogs Deserve Better is a national nonprofit working to end the suffering endured by dogs kept chained or penned for life by having volunteers chain themselves to a doghouse.

“Living chained to a doghouse for 24 hours will be grueling and unimaginable for those of us who are so used to coming and going as we please,” said Susan Hartland, organizer of the Atlanta and Seattle events and a Dogs Deserve Better area representative. “But the discomfort we will endure is nothing compared to the daily suffering of many of our nation’s dogs who spend their entire lives at the end of a chain, living in a small patch of mud, their chains wrapped around a tree, baking in the summer sun or freezing in the winter cold.”

DCH Spotlight - Loco Moco Shorts

Okay, I'll admit it - these Loco Moco Shorts are hilarious, cute and disturbing, all at the same time. Yes, they are cute but when someone asks, who wears short-shorts, you'd never think it would be your dog. And a boy dog at that!

Yipee! BBQ & Relaxin'

We'll be relaxin' and cookin' on the grill. We'll be back next Monday with bigger and better doggie stories. Have a safe and wonderful holiday!

Fluffy The Vampire Slayer

According to TMZ, this is Sarah Michelle Gellar launching the Harrod's summer sale. Bloody posh, but I have questions:

1. Are both of the furry objects dogs, or is one of them a wrap? A faux fur wrap, I would hope.
2. Why is Mohammed Al-Fayed knighting her with one of the maybe-dogs?
3. Why are the maybe-dogs naked?

There is so much about this I don't understand. To compliment Sarah's understated elegance, I would suggest that the maybe-dogs try this :

Cranberry and Gold is a genius combination, no? And that way everyone would be clear on what's an animal and what's an accessory.
